Rebecca is one of our amazing intern staff and she took some time out of her day to answer a few questions about her time with us at CSK.

Q: First of all - happy International Women’s day.
A: Yay!
.
Q: What made you decide to take classes at The Culinary Institute of Canada?
A: I was in Dietetics before - specifically in a long term care home and I saw a real disconnect between the food and clinical world. So I decided to go back to school to learn the food side of things.
.
Q: Before PEI, where was home?
A: Vancouver Island - I’m island hopping. 😂 When I miss home, I cook up some salmon because it always reminds me of the West Coast. My ultimate comfort dish is homemade Mac and Cheese - but you can’t forget to add some spice!
.
Q: How are you celebrating International Women’s Day here at CSK?
A: It’s so refreshing to be able to work with women chefs in the field. I work a lot with Chef Krista (CSK food product developer) and she’s amazing to learn from in both culinary and food science.

With our friends at The Culinary Institute, we hosted the Holland College Board of Governors. Our facility gives ample space to socially distance and gather responsibly.

A client was looking for earth-friendly and sturdy new packaging, so we got to work! Here is just a peek at what we found.

We love to take care of our world (and our appetite) so this was a fun project to work on!

These cookies are on their way to our friends at Charlottetown Rural! Next week is exam week and these cookies are made to help students feel ready-to-ace!

We look forward to this project every year, knowing it gives some of our Island students a good start to their day.

When we want to know what people REALLY think, we do a call out for sensory participants. To stay within CPHO guidelines, we now offer them as “take home kits”. Today is sensory pick-up day and we can’t wait to see what our testers have to say about these (secret) products.

Jenna is one of our stellar interns and a second year student at The Culinary Institute. We caught up with her today to ask what makes her such a great fit to our team. ❤️

Question: Why did you want to take classes at The Culinary?
Answer: I have always been passionate about food. In high school I took a Commercial Cooking Class, and it was the only class that didn’t feel like work. I always looked forward to it.
.
Question: What is your favourite dish to make?
Answer: There’s so many! I do love soup though. Soup really got me through quarantine. 
.
Question: What do you love the most about CSK?
Answer: I love working alongside experienced Product Developers and seeing what they do. It really opens your mind up to the different possibilities in this field and everyone is so apt to help! I love that I get to learn something new every day.

Ashton is one of our amazing intern staff and we wanted you to know a bit more about her!

Question: What is your favourite meal to make?
Ashton: Butter chicken - made just right! You have to marinate the meat and be sure to sauté off the spice!
.
Question: What inspired you to become a chef?
Ashton: My parents - they were always  naturally good cooks at home and I wanted to carry that into my career.
.
Question: What is your favourite part about working at CSK?
Ashton: There’s always something new to do! As opposed to making the same thing every day - there’s always something new on the go.
.

Exciting things are happening! . A few weeks ago, Exciting things are happening!

A few weeks ago, the bioscience team from @hollandcollege came to visit our facility to see how we could collaborate with our equipment - today they returned the favour! We toured their facility today and we are excited about some future collaboration!
.
A special shout out to Shawn MacDougall from the Holland College Applied Research Office for coordinating this! We can’t wait to see what we can do together and support student learning and the real world needs of clients.

Serdar has been with us for over a month and has already added so much to our projects we have on the go.

Question: What is your favourite food to make?
Serdar: Chicken! A nice mustard and spice rub? My favourite! Skin on is a must!
.
Question: What do you like about working at CSK?
Serdar: Not only do I get to learn something new every day; I get to learn from and work with my teachers from school. Chef Allan taught me and now I work alongside him.
.
Question: Whats one piece of advice you would give to someone entering the culinary field?
Answer: Make sure you genuinely love to cook! Everyone thinks they’ll become a famous chef overnight and that’s not the case. It’s hard (but really good) work, so make sure you love it!
.
