Quote of the Month:
“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.” ~ Edith Sitwell
Month in Review:
+ To kick off the month on November 5, we were pleased to welcome Joris Leferink of The Boilery to Canada’s Smartest Kitchen; Joris had great discussions with our team, sharing his expertise on packaging and processing market trends; you can find more details on the CSK partnership with this international industry leader here.
+ Throughout the month, CSK also welcomed Culinary Institute of Canada students to our facility on two occasions; we utilized two second year students for assistance for with preparing samples for a client project, and also hosted group tour presentations on different culinary career options available. Staff always appreciate the opportunity to share their knowledge with the next generation of chefs, and also collaborating on projects and supporting experiential learning opportunities for the students as well.
+ CSK celebrated its 10 Year Anniversary with an Open House event on Thursday, November 14; it was well attended by clients, government and industry partners, colleagues and friends. Hosted in our facility, the event was run by the second year CIC banquet team, who did an outstanding job creating our reception fare recipes using CSK client products. Check out our Twitter, Instagram or Facebook pages to see all the photos!
+ On November 18 and 19, our Director Tim McRoberts & Holland College Applied Research Manager, Shawn MacDougall, represented CSK at the Technology Access Centre – Best Practices Workshop at La Cité, in Ottawa. We were delighted to receive a “TAC – Bestie Award”, being recognized amongst the 47-strong national network of centres for Internal Staff Engagement this year.
+ On November 21 and 22, staff participated in the inaugural C3I Cannabis Bootcamp on PEI, a jointly organized workshop by Food Island Partnership, CSK, BioFoodTech, PEI BioAlliance and the National Research Council. Participants learned about “regulation, marketing, product development, and financing for the next wave of cannabis products such as edibles”; for further details, check out this CBC News Story.
