Month in Review:
+ We started the month off right with inclusion in a wonderful article feature in Salty, the Island’s food digest magazine, highlighting the successful food cluster network on PEI including BioFoodTech, Food Island Partnership, and Canada’s Smartest Kitchen. + In early February, the Tourism & Culinary Centre hosted “Holland College Career Connections Day”, with CSK staff Mickhaelia Boothe and Krista MacQuarrie meeting with dozens of Culinary Institute of Canada students throughout the day to learn more about career opportunities in the food and beverage industry, including product research and development, food innovation, food styling, and corporate chef services.
+ Canada’s Smartest Kitchen celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11, highlighting the brilliant and talented staff of CSK who participate in innovative research and product development on a daily basis: go team!
Several Canada’s Smartest Kitchen staff members were on the road in February:
+ Jennifer Bryant and Krista MacQuarrie were at Charlottetown Rural High School handing out smoothies and brain-boosting recipes to students during the busy exam week;
+ Jennifer Bryant and Ashton Moore also provided smoothie support to Holland College students in Charlottetown and Summerside, as part of the promotion of the Post-Secondary Food Insecurity Survey project through Holland College Applied Research; more details on the project and the collaborative supporters can be found here;
+ Allan Williams visited the Sysco Headquarters in Houston, Texas and prepped client products in their research and development test kitchens;
+ We proudly hosted a number of community groups, including a “Taste of PEI” industry event for visiting dignitaries; the Big Brothers Big Sisters PEI – Chapter Annual General Meeting, as well as a collaborative session with the Meetings & Conventions PEI team
