Canada’s Smartest Kitchen offers internship opportunities throughout the year for aspiring students, with varying backgrounds including Culinary Art, Food Technology, and Business Administration and Marketing: https://smartestkitchen.ca/what-we-do/internships/
For the first time ever, this June we were able to welcome a UPEI Foods and Nutrition student, Megan Brett, for her Dietetic Internship placement. We asked Megan to share some insight to her personal and professional connections with culinary science, and her experiences, that lead to her educational journey and CSK:
What was your favourite food growing up?
I always loved my mom’s homemade soup growing up. But then when I moved out, she would jar batches and bring them to me, and I got so sick of it. I didn’t want to tell her at first and hurt her feelings, but eventually I had to because she just kept giving me jars.
What made you choose the Registered Dietitian program?
I’ve always loved food. However, I didn’t always have a great relationship with it. I started becoming more and more interested in the science of nutrition and I really just wanted to help people overcome any food fears (if needed) and ultimately find the joy in food.
What is your favourite meal to prepare?
I love a good homemade pizza night with friends.
What is your dream travel destination?
Pretty polar opposites, but either Spain or Iceland.
What is your favorite aspect of interning with CSK?
Definitely the people. Everyone is so nice and extremely supportive in helping me to achieve all my learning objectives. Also, the food of course 🙂
We thank Megan for all her interest, enthusiasm, and intelligence throughout her internship this month, and look forward to working with her in the future as she continues down her professional path – and we hope to welcome further dietetic interns in the future as well!
