As part of an ongoing effort to help Canadians make healthier decisions, Health Canada has introduced a new front-of-package labeling system that makes it easier to identify foods and drinks that are high in saturated fat, sugars, or sodium.
This new symbol, which you may start seeing on some food packaging in 2025, is designed to capture attention quickly with a black-and-white magnifying glass. It highlights products that may increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure when consumed frequently.
While the symbol will not appear on all food packages—particularly those that are not high in the aforementioned ingredients—it will be an essential tool for consumers to compare similar products and make more informed choices. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to encourage healthy eating habits and improve public health outcomes.
